Roy S. Freedman founded Inductive Solutions, Inc., to develop commercial AI software for genetic algorithms, neural networks, and case-based reasoning. His primary consulting interests involve solving problems associated with trading, operations, risk management, and compliance by using mathematics, statistics, and computer technology. As a consultant, he worked with stock exchanges, buy-side and sell-side firms, technology companies, startups, and government institutions. During the third term of the Bloomberg mayoral administration, he was the principal AI consultant to the Chief Information Officer of New York City Health & Human Services. As an expert witness, he testified on the federal level concerning financial and regulatory technology related to high-frequency trading.

His latest patent (co-inventor with I. Sobkowski), Providing the basis for ethical AI through explanations by coupling non-interpretable and interpretable systems, was granted on March 8, 2022 (U.S. Patent No. 11,270,214). Introduction to Financial Technology, his most recent book, is published by Elsevier under their Academic Press imprint.

Dr. Freedman teaches various courses related to financial systems (FinTech) and regulatory systems (RegTech) as adjunct professor in the department of Finance and Risk Engineering at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering (formerly Polytechnic University). His publications span the areas of trading and compliance technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and software testability. In addition to teaching, Dr. Freedman is a mentor at the NYU Tandon Future Labs.

Dr. Freedman's professional activities include serving as editor and reviewer for several publications and being an invited speaker and teacher at many conferences and seminars. He was the Program Chairman for the First (published papers), Second (book review), and Third (some recently republished papers) international conferences on Artificial Intelligence Applications on Wall Street. He is a member of the technical committee on Computational Finance and Economics for the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and is on the program committee for the Computational Intelligence for Financial Engineering and Economics (CIFEr) conferences.

Dr. Freedman received a BS and MS in Mathematics, an MS in Electrical Engineering, and a PhD in Mathematics, all from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering (formerly Polytechnic University).
